PALMYRA, Wis. — A construction worker died Wednesday after falling from a scaffold and being impaled on a metal stake, officials in Palmyra said.
Emergency crews responded to the construction site on Violet Street in the Village of Palmyra about five minutes after receiving the 911 call. Officials said Wednesday afternoon they found the worker stuck to the stake, not breathing, and without a pulse.
Crews cut the metal stake and tried lifesaving measures, but the worker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner. The worker is not being identified until family and next of kin can be notified.
The area of Violet St. was closed for several hours due to the accident.
Officials did not say how the worker fell, but the incident remains under investigation by the Palmyra Public Safety Department, OSHA and the Jefferson County Medical Examiner.
