Vivrelle offers four different memberships: Premier, Classique, Couture and Couture+. The Premier membership is the least expensive at $39 per month; however, you can only borrow designer jewelry and accessories — no handbags.

The Classique membership is $99 per month and it includes one designer bag per month under $4,000 retail value (excluding unique and limited edition items). This is the membership you want if you’re a handbag buff. For $100 a month, you could carry $48,000 worth of handbags on your shoulder within a year. However, if you really like one handbag, you can borrow it and keep it for as long as you want. You don’t have to swap it out each month.

Nonetheless, the Couture Membership costs $199 and it includes one designer bag per month with a retail value of over $4,000. Need more? The Couture+ membership offers two handbags per month: one Classique item and one Couture item. You can also add the Premier membership to your existing one at any point.

Yes, of course, most of the bags are used. However, Vivrelle keeps them in great shape. Additionally, like many clothing rental services, you should consider the environmental impact it makes to rent versus buy. However, if you really love a bag and don’t want to let it go, you have the option to purchase it at a special members only pricing.

While Vivrelle’s website says you have to apply for a membership, it’s really just filling out some basic information about yourself. Tell them your birthday, which brands you love the most, your shipping address and your billing info. Once your information is validated and you’re approved, you can pick out your first handbag.

One thing to note is that there is a three-month minimum commitment with every membership. According to the brand’s FAQ, “Vivrelle is built on loyalty,” and it wants to build a community of members versus one-timers.

Some designer rental brands like Rent The Runway and Bag Borrow or Steal do offer handbags for rent. But, there’s not as much variety, as many designers or as great of prices as there are with Vivrelle. It’s definitely worth trying if you want a shiny new bag but don’t want to shell out all your cash at once.
