I can model anywhere in the world –Marcela Aipoh, child prodigy

If you had to watch your 8-year-old strut down the runway as a professional model, bringing accolades, awards as well as the cash, how would you feel? Great. Right?

Well, Marcela Maseogehena Aipoh has been doing just that as a model since she was three. Now, she’s a household name and brand with numerous awards and money to go with it.

With a confidence that sparks off passion, when you hear Marcella talks, you’ll start building an image of what she would become when she turns eighteen or twenty. All thanks to her mom, who discovered early that the chocolate-skinned, lively chap would do well as a model.

Only last May, Kidpreneur Africa nominated Marcella as Kidpreneur Ambassador. She was a guest at a kid’s show held at the Xperience with Nollywood actress, Chizi Alachi. The child prodigy also appeared on a NTA 10 talk show, after which she was a celebrity kid-guest during this year’s Children’s Day celebration held in Lagos by the TV station.

Marcela has mastered the art of self-expression during interviews, whether live or recorded; and she advocates for the rights of the Nigerian and African child when she gets the opportunity to do so. The kid model has also made notable presence at top notch events, and has been recognised with several awards including Most Creative Awards from Gentle Touch International School 2019; Best in Diction, Angels Treasure School 2020; Super Kid Model Universe, Charmin Kid International USA 2021; and Most Talented Kid Speaker Universe.

Marcela’s mom, Princess Blessing John, a native of Edo State, doubles as her manager. Recalling how it all began, the woman said, “Marcela was only three and people tried to discourage me; they said she was too young, and the exposure would be too much for her. Then, trying to get her to do things in a certain way was a big deal; trying to make her see herself as a professional was tough. Building her to this stage has been by the grace of God. Today, she understands it when I say ‘we are going out for an event or having a shoot; see me on set’, and all that. At those moments, we keep the mommy-baby thing aside, and we become professional colleagues. After work, when we get home, we become the mommy and baby that we are.”

Princess Blessing John added: “As Marcela’s manager, the discouragement I felt was getting rejection when we go for casting, and she won’t be picked. People were saying a lot of things to discourage us, but today they are asking me how we did it – how I was able to come this far. Today, my daughter is now a role model to those people and their kids.”

As a kid model, one of the criteria for garnering those awards was intelligence; being able to read scripts for brands. And Marcela does that very well. Hear her mom: “We don’t mix career and academics; they are two different things. When it’s time for Marcela’s academics, I made sure she commits fully to it. Also, during exams her career is put on hold.”

Marcela Aipoh has lots of dreams for the future, as she hopes to take her career beyond the shores of Africa. “Most importantly, I believe the African child if given the opportunity, has great potential to compete anywhere in the world,” she stated.
